Medical Education Commission Entrance Examination

MECEE PG stands for Medical Education Commission Entrance Examination (Nepal PG Medical Entrance Exam). It is a common entrance examination conducted in Nepal for providing admission to medical postgraduate courses. MECEE examination is conducted by Nepal Medical Education Board.

Before the MEC Entrance Examination, the university conducted its own entrance exam for MD and MS.  However, starting in 2020, MECEE is a common entrance examination organized by the Nepal Medical Education Board to provide MD/MS admission in Nepal. Application forms for the entrance exam and admission are available in the month of September every year. The entrance exam is held in the month of October every year.

Indian Students have to appear MECEE Examination to pursue Medical Studies in Nepal. It is a computer-based exam.  The exam paper contains 200 multiple-choice questions. The duration of this exam is 3 hours. The Exam is held once a year

Eligibility for direct MD/MS admission in Nepal

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree and should have completed one year of internship.
  • Registered with Medical Council in their state/country.
  • Must have passed MECEE Exam with the qualifying marks

Documents Required For Direct MD/MS Admission In Nepal

  • 10th and 12th mark sheet.
  • Birth Certificate
  • Admit card of current year entrance examination.
  • Migration certificate
  • Passport size photo with visa format
  • Citizenship certificates such as Voter ID, passport, Adhaar card, etc.

Established as a health sciences school on 18 January 1993, the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is now a university by virtue of being upgraded as a health sciences university, with a mandate to develop a health workforce that is socially responsible and competent, providing quality health care and engaging in innovative research. The institute is named after the visionary leader of Nepal, Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala. All the PG medical degrees offered by this university are duly recognized by Nepal Medical Council and related medical councils. several MD/MS degrees (Anesthesiology, Dermatology and Venereology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Surgery, Radiology, Psychiatry, Otorhinolaryngology, Medicine, Pharmacology and Gynecology& Obstetrics) are recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI)

Students including Indians must appear and qualify for the MECEE exam to get admission to this College. Qualifying marks are 50%. The seat is allotted according to Rank Secured in this Entrance Test. This entrance exam is conducted in the month of May.

Admission Process of Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was designed to develop and train all the different categories of health personnel the country needs. It was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University. In its first decade, it established 12 campuses in different parts of the country, of which three were in Kathmandu and nine were outside of it.

Previously, PG admission was based solely on the results of the entrance exam conducted by the IOM-Tribhuvan University, but now it is totally based on the results of the MEC Entrance Exam.

Students including Indians must appear and qualify for the exam to get admission to this College. Qualifying marks are 50%. The seat is allotted according to Rank Secured in this Entrance Test. This entrance exam is conducted in the month of May* by MEC, this year it will be conducted in the second week of January 2022.
